A Magical Princess Party
Princess-themed birthday parties are a common ask, and you can take them in a million different directions. Read on for the basics as you plan your kiddo’s special day.
Here ye! Here ye! Whether you’re going for a Disney themed princess party or creating a magical land of your own invention, adding the royal treatment to your child’s special event is as easy as bibbidi bobbidi boo. Follow these tips to sprinkle some magic on your little one’s birthday.
Entertainment and Activity Ideas
Dress code: Dress up like royalty!
A princess party is a perfect opportunity to break out the costumes. Invite kids to dress up as their favourite prince, princess, king, queen, court jester…whatever suits their fancy! Be sure to have a few extra accessories on hand (tiaras, tutus, capes, swords and crowns) for guests who forget.
Hire a real live princess.
It’s pretty easy to find trained character actors who can come to your birthday party and sing songs, read a story, take photos or have a mini dance party as their princess persona. Just google this service in your area. A “real princess” is sure to be the hit of the party, making it a memorable party for everyone!
Plan a treasure hunt.
This is a simple game to put together and can be modified for any age. Gather some princess–themed items and hide them around the party space (they can also just be pictures of the items so you can tape them a little more out of sight!). Hand each child a scavenger hunt list (pair adults or bigger kids with little kids who can’t read yet). Guests will hunt for the items and cross them off as they locate them.
Set up a crown-decorating station.
Pick up some sequins, stickers, markers, paint and glitter glue and set up a fun themed craft station, inviting your guests to decorate their own crowns. This activity doubles as a great party giveaway, giving guests a cute accessory to wear at the party and take home as a favour.
What to Serve at a Princess-Themed Birthday Party
A tea party lends itself to the princess theme. A simple array of sandwiches, fruit and mini pastries complements any princess party.
Of course no birthday party is complete without a cake, but you don’t have to spend a fortune on a custom birthday cake to match your party theme. Amazon and Etsy are both full of inexpensive toppers (and other décor items!). Etsy even has print-your-own options where you receive a file you can just print at home.
Loot Bag Ideas
Although the loot bag is a heated topic, a themed party favor is a great way to thank guests for attending your party. Books, tiaras or crowns or pretend play jewelry make great parting gifts at the end of a princess birthday party theme.
Extra Tips and Tricks
Don’t forget the music! Look up the soundtracks to your child’s favourite princess movies for some added singalong fun. Have a few extra minutes? Have your child help you to make a playlist featuring their favourite royalty-themed tunes.
