Watch ParentsCanada editor Janice Biehn talk about this and other holiday crafts on CTV Kitchener’s News at Noon.

Materials:

  • paper
  • scissors
  • plasticine or putty
  • spray snow
  • painter’s tape

Directions:

1. Fold a square piece of paper into a triangle and then in half again to make a smaller triangle. With the longest edge facing you and the rightangle away from you, fold outside bottom corners towards the centre, overlapping each other and dividing the triangle into thirds. Cut off the points to make the bottom of this new folded shape straight. (Hint: when you open it up, you’ll have 12 even sections.)

2. Using scissors, cut shapes into the folded paper. Be creative; after all, no two snowflakes are alike. Unfold and flatten the finished paper snowflake.

3. With small pieces of plasticine or putty, stick the points and the centre of each snowflake securely to the window.

4. Mask off the window frame and surrounding area with painter’s tape. Spray over the stencil(s) and the window with faux snow following the directions on the can.

5. Remove the stencil(s) and putty from the window and enjoy the view through your new snowflake peepholes.
