Many thanks to the people at Niagara Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours who invited me to try out their wild ride this summer. If you’re looking to stretch out the last days of summer it’s a great family outing. Tours continue into mid-October, weather permitting.
Operating out of beautiful historic Niagara-on-the-Lake, there is plenty to do in the area, especially with the bicentennial of the War of 1812 (much of which happened here). After a wholesome educational viewing of a musket demo at Fort George, a blast through the class five rapids of the raging Niagara River is in order.
The ride lasts about an hour and costs $61/adult and $51/child. It’s worth it for the view alone. Children must be at least 44 inches tall, and children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Word to the wise – you will get wet. Here’s a short video clip to get a sense of what it’s like – that’s me in the back row centre!
