Forget healthy trail mix and picture-perfect hiking family—Stacey Green's easy and tasty trail mix brings snacking back to reality.
Doesn’t trail mix just bring to mind a super-healthy family dressed in matching windbreakers and portaging through the wilderness with their perfect little cherubs in tow?
They stop for a rest on a rock overlooking a scenic valley and refuel with a handful of wholesome, homemade trail mix. They’re so annoying.
Turns out my reality with this delicious snack is me driving one of my children to some kind of after-school activity while they wolf down a Tupperware container full of tasty trail mix in the backseat. The beauty of this shit is that you can tailor it to suit any picky child’s taste buds. Because everything is about them, of course. You can even throw in a couple of fucking chocolate chips just to trick them into thinking it’s a treat. You’re so sneaky.
Ingredients for Tasty Trail Mix
1 cup of cereal (Cheerios or Shreddies is a good choice)
1 cup of dried fruit (you can’t go wrong with raisins!)
1 cup of chocolate chips or M&Ms (optional but shouldn’t be)
1 cup of nuts (peanuts, cashews, pistachios, almonds or a mixture of any you love)
Directions for Tasty Trail Mix
Dump all the ingredients into a large bowl and mix those fuckers around until it looks like trail mix confetti.
If not eating immediately, store in an airtight container (I like a Mason jar with a lid) until ready to eat.
Make sure you tell your ankle biters that, no, they cannot eat all of it in one sitting because, yes, they will get sick, and no, you’re not lying about that.
