This easy, portable chef’s salad in a jar is perfect for lunches, road trips or picnics. Layered for freshness and fun to shake, it’s a family-friendly way to eat more veggies on the go.
Chunky salads are perfect for travelling—pour your dressing of choice into the bottom of the jar, then layer with greens, cooked pasta, grape tomatoes, cubed cucumber, ham and cheese, wedges of hard-boiled egg and sliced radish…the list goes on. It will keep crisp until you’re ready for it, chopped pieces are easily skewered with a fork and kids will love shaking their jars when it’s time to eat.
Ingredients for Chef’s Salad in a Jar
Dressing of choice
Spring greens or chopped Romaine or iceberg lettuce
Cooked rotini or penne pasta
Grape or cherry tomatoes
Cubed cucumber
Cubed ham or salami or shredded chicken
Cubed or shredded cheese
Hard-boiled eggs, peeled and cut into wedges
Sliced radishes
Any other easily chopped vegetables of your choosing
Instructions for Chef's Salad in a Jar
Pour as much dressing as you like into the bottom of a thick glass jar or other container (a medium- or large-sized Mason jar works beautifully). Top with layers of greens, pasta, tomatoes, cucumber, ham or salami, cheese, eggs, radishes, etc. Cover and keep in the fridge or a cooler/cooler bag until you’re ready to shake and eat.
