When I found out that my husband wouldn't be able to attend the ultrasound where the gender of our second baby would be revealed, I knew that I wanted to do something a little different. When my cousin told me about the “gender reveal party” trend going around, I knew it was the perfect solution! I thought I'd share the experience for anyone looking to do something similar!
The envelope that was given to me by the ultrasound technician (containing the big secret!) was brought DIRECTLY to our wonderful baker, who runs a local business, Sweet Tooth Designs by Vanessa. I knew that I wouldn't have the self-control to resist peeking!
I made some photo props for the party with foam sheets purchased from the dollar store. I cut out little moustaches and pink lips and glued them to skewer sticks. These turned out to be a HUGE hit and were a really fun and inexpensive way to add to the theme.
I made my husband and I some tshirts saying “Pink or Blue – WE LOVE YOU” on the front and “Team Blue/Pink” on the back for our personal guesses! On the invitations, we told people to wear blue or pink to cast their votes. We had a voting station and a $2 Baby Due Date Pool set up at the party. On the voting station, I made and poster outlining all my pregnancy symptoms, along with several “Old wives tale” predictions.
The party was an afternoon event and we had plenty of snacks and great company! Our guests were into the theme, sporting everything from blue wigs to head-to-toe pink! It really made the dayspecial, even before cutting the cake!
The cake was BEAUTIFUL! All of our guests were so excited when it was finally time to cut the cake! My husband and I were of course VERY excited to finally find out! The moment came and together we sliced the cake, only to find… BLUE icing!
It's official, we will be welcoming our second SON in only a few (hopefully short) weeks!
The whole experience was so fantastic! It was wonderful to find out the baby's gender surrounded by our friends and family. I would highly recommend something like this for anyone looking to find out the gender of their new additions!
