Ingredients for Honey-Garlic Chicken
- 2 to 2½ lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch pieces
- ½ cup cornstarch
- 1 tbsp neutral cooking oil
Sauce
- 1 cup water
- ⅓ cup low-sodium soy sauce
- ⅓ cup honey
- 1–2 tbsp sriracha, to taste
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 tbsp cold water
Optional garnish
- Sesame seeds
- Sliced green onions
Directions for Honey-Garlic Chicken
- In a medium saucepan, combine water, soy sauce, honey, sriracha and garlic. Bring to a gentle boil over medium, stirring occasionally.
- In a small bowl, whisk together cornstarch and cold water until smooth. Stir the mixture into the saucepan and cook for 1–2 min, stirring constantly, until sauce thickens. Reduce heat to low to keep warm.
- Place the chicken and ½ cup cornstarch in a large resealable bag. Seal the bag and shake until the chicken is evenly coated.
- In a large non-stick skillet, heat the oil over medium. Add the chicken in a single layer, working in batches if necessary, and cook for 3–4 min per side, until golden and cooked through.
- Return all of the chicken to the skillet. Pour honey-garlic sauce over top and toss until chicken is evenly coated.
- Serve over cooked rice, if desired, and garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions.
Tip: For a milder version, use 1 tablespoon of sriracha or omit it altogether. This versatile honey-garlic sauce also works well with chicken thighs, shrimp, salmon or tofu.
