While we’re all for exploring every corner of the city (check out our articles on Hidden Gems in the GTA), there’s something to be said for spending an entire day at jam-packed Toronto attractions. You get to settle in and really immerse yourself in everything the destination has to offer. Read on for some of the best ways to spend a day in Toronto and the GTA—take your pick and add one (or all three!) to your itinerary. You won’t be sorry.
- The Toronto Zoo
2000 Meadowvale Rd, Toronto
Don’t be deterred by this attraction’s location outside of the downtown core. The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) operates a number of routes that service the zoo, and GO Transit operates seasonal weekend bus services from a list of stations. Plus, it’s totally worth the trip once you arrive. This zoo is the largest zoo in Canada, and it’s divided into seven geo-specific regions with animals in indoor and outdoor habitats and pavilions. The Discovery Zone is also a great spot for families to set up camp, with exhibits geared towards kids, the Splash Island splash pad, the Waterside Theatre and more.
- Canada's Wonderland
1 Canada’s Wonderland Dr, Vaughan
Located just 32 km from the heart of the city, this amusement park opened in 1981 and remains a beloved local attraction. The 330-acre park boasts 69 rides of varying thrill levels (including 18 roller coasters), a water park, a Peanuts-themed children’s area, shows, activities and so much more. You will probably get to the end of the day with a list of things you still want to do, which obviously means planning a return trip ASAP.
- Toronto Island Park
Jack Layton Ferry Terminal 9 Queens Quay W, Toronto
This attraction is actually made up of several islands in Lake Ontario, despite its deceiving name. Access is pedestrian-only, so hop on the ferry at Queens Quay to make your way across. There are no shortage of things to do once you arrive: Check out one of the well-known beaches, stroll the boardwalk, hit the trails or visit the hobby farm/petting zoo. You can also plan to visit Centreville Amusement Park, which
is home to more than 30 rides, a mini golf course, an overhead gondola and lots of food options.
Try Toronto CityPASS
If you’re planning to hit more than one of the city’s top attractions, consider CityPASS for your Toronto stay. CityPASS tickets offer one-time admission to the CN Tower, as well as admission to four other locations of your choosing. You can add visits to the ROM, Casa Loma, City Cruises, the Toronto Zoo or the Ontario Science Centre. You’ll save an average of 41 percent on attraction tickets per person when you go with CityPASS.
