DIY Granola Trail Mix  

  • Makes: 3 ½ cups granola 
  • Serves: 8 
  • Prep time: 5 mins  
  • Cook time: 25 mins 

Ingredients For the Granola  

  • 2 cups (500 mL) large flake oats 
  • ½ cup (125 mL) shredded unsweetened coconut 
  • ½ cup (125 mL) sunflower seeds 
  • ½ tsp (2.5 mL) cinnamon  
  • Pinch of salt 
  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) maple syrup or honey 
  • ¼ cup + 2 tbsp (90 mL) sunflower butter or nut butter  
  • 1 egg white, whisked until foamy 

Method For the Granola  

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper, set aside. 
  2. In a medium sized bowl, combine oats, coconut, sunflower seeds, cinnamon, and salt, mix together.  
  3. Next add in maple syrup or honey, sunflower butter and mix until combined. Then stir in the whisked egg white and mix again.  
  4. Spread the granola onto the prepared baking sheet and place into the oven and bake for 15 mins, mix granola around and bake for another 10-15 minutes, until golden brown.  
  5. Allow to cool completely and store in an airtight container for up to 1 week. 

Ingredients For the Trail Mix 

  • 1 ½ cup (375 mL) granola  
  • ½ cup (125 mL) sunflower seeds  
  • 1 cup (250 mL) pretzels 
  • 1 cup (250 mL) mini marshmallows 
  • ½ cup (125 mL) m&ms, chocolate chips or smarties 

Method For the Trail Mix  

  1. Combine all ingredients and mix.  
  2. Place into airtight container and enjoy within 5 days.
