Ingredients for Easy Chocolate Bark

12 oz (340g) high-quality chocolate (dark, milk or white chocolate)
Choice of toppings (see the bottom of the recipe for some tasty options)

Equipment for Easy Chocolate Bark

  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Microwave-safe bowl or double boiler
  • Spatula

Method for Easy Chocolate Bark

1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, allowing extra overhang to easily lift the bark once it’s set.

2. There are two methods you can use for melting the chocolate:

Microwave method: Chop the chocolate into small, even pieces. Place it in a microwave-safe bowl and heat in 30-sec intervals, stirring between each. Continue until the chocolate is smooth and fully melted.

Double boiler method: Fill a pot with a couple of inches of water and bring it to a simmer. Place a heatproof bowl over the pot with the chopped chocolate and stir occasionally until it’s fully melted.

3. Pour the melted chocolate onto the parchment-lined baking sheet. Use a spatula to spread it into an even layer, about 1/4 inch thick.

4. While the chocolate is still warm and soft, sprinkle with toppings. Carefully the toppings gently into the chocolate with a spoon or your fingers (if chocolate isn’t too hot!) to help them stick.

5. Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for about 30 min, or until the chocolate has fully hardened.

6. Once chocolate is fully set, break the bark into fun, irregular pieces. Store the chocolate bark in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks, or refrigerate it for a firmer texture.

Topping Combinations for Easy Chocolate Bark

The toppings are pretty much endless, but here are some combos we love.

Cookie Crumble: This is as delicious as it sounds. Choose your favourite sandwich cookies (Oreos or Fudgee-Os are perfect for this) and crumble them into small chunks. Add to bark with a dusting of chocolate sprinkles. (We love white chocolate for this one, so the cookies really stand out.)

Salty and Sweet: Milk chocolate bark gets paired with crumbled potato chips and pretzels for this one. Drizzle with caramel sauce for an extra hit of sweetness.

More S’mores: You know what’s coming—top milk or dark chocolate with crushed graham crackers and mini marshmallows. Add a handful of chocolate chips for added chocolate-y goodness.

Majorly Minted: This is the classic bark approach, but it’s so simple and pretty that you can’t go wrong. Crushed candy canes make for a gorgeous festive topper on every kind of chocolate.
