Impressive!
Hang or stand this hand cast to remember the small hands that helped create it.

  1. On a level surface, fill a foil pan with sand leaving 1 cm of space at the top. Smooth out surface, but don’t compact the sand.
  2. Practice pressing hand into surface, deeply and with open fingers. If the impression doesn’t hold, add a bit of water and stir. Try again.
  3. Once you have a sand impression that looks deep enough, set aside.
  4. Make plaster according to instructions on package. Work quickly because it sets fast!
  5. Pour plaster into foil pan, filling to the rim. As plaster begins to set, stick a paper clip into the back to create a hook.
  6. Let dry overnight, then turn out hand cast.
Sand will be damp. Gently brush it off as it dries to reveal your child’s hand print.

Catchy idea
Novice jugglers need objects that don’t roll or bounce. Sand bags fit the bill, without attracting critters!

  1. Fill sandwich bag with a handful of sand, directing the sand to one corner. Fold over to close bag.
  2. Take two balloons and cut the neck off each.
  3. Stretch one of the balloons open wide and pull it over the bag of sand.
  4. Pull the other balloon over the opposite side to cover the sandwich bag completely.
  5. Repeat for other balls.

What a sandscape!
Create a sandcastle that you can actually take home.

  1. Sketch a sand castle or a drawing of your choice on a prehung canvas board, available at dollar stores or art stores.
  2. Using a paint or foam brush, place glue in the area you wish to cover in sand.
  3. Pour a cup of sand over your portrait, pat down and leave to dry.
  4. Shake off excess sand, and your portrait will be revealed.
  5. Dress it up, using paint and seashells.
